Set up basis for RTO & MTPD
Establishing a basis for measurement of RTO and MTPD values
The User is able to customize the system-wide settings for calculating RTO values, MTPD values and criticality levels. Within the BIA process, impact levels need to be assessed for each impact category as applied to the products, services and other critical objectives. These impact ratings are applied to each of five User assigned system-wide pre-set time periods. . There are six pre-set impact levels namely, "Disastrous"; "Very serious"; "Serious"; "Not serious"; "Negligible" and "No Impact". The User customizes the impact categories, the time periods and the definition of each impact level for each impact category. The User can access the BIA system-wide settings by clicking on the "BIA set up" button on the BIA screen. Clicking this button displays the following screen:
Choosing the system-wide RTO measurement criteria
The software is delivered with the RTO trigger levels set at "serious". This means that the process needs to be recovered and operating normally again prior to a "serious" impact level being reached in order to avoid unacceptable consequences. The User can change these system wide settings to the level that reflects their own organization's risk appetite. This impact level will then be applied to the time period value that corresponds to before the "serious" impact level is reached. For example, if the "serious" level is reached during the third BIA time period then the RTO value will equal the time value in the second BIA period.
Choosing the system-wide MTPD measurement criteria
The software is also delivered with the MTPD trigger levels set at "disastrous". The MTPD level normally reflects the maximum tolerable period of disruption before the organization suffers extremely serious (catastrophic) consequences. The User can change these system wide settings to the level that reflects their own organization's risk profile. This impact level will then be applied to the time period value that corresponds to before the "disastrous" impact level is reached. For example, if the "disastrous" level is reached during the fifth BIA time period then the MTPD value will equal the time value in the fourth BIA period.
